Skipper of Shogun, Rob has fished and sailed the waters around the Isle of Wight since the tender age of 3, gaining experience every step of the way.

From 1996 until 2000 Rob was at the helm of the yacht ‘Pia of the Seas’ sailing extensively around the Channel Islands, Mediterranean, Bahamas, Azores, the Eastern Sea Board of the U.S.A and his favorite place on earth the Caribbean. Rob is also a crew member of the Lymington Lifeboat – B784

A vast wealth of fishing knowledge allows Rob to fish many marks and methods that are rarely exploited by other boats; his knowledge is shared and photographs featured throughout Boat Fishing magazine on a monthly basis.

Rich Rickman is 34 years old and has crewed with Rob during 2007. After hitting it off on a couple of inshore trips as an angler Rob asked Rich if he would like to help on various charters.

Rich has a wealth of knowledge gleaned from 30 years fishing the local waters of the Solent and West Wight, he always offers invaluable advice to anglers aboard the boat.

His favourite species are Bass, Bream and Cod all a local specialty and his expertise as a match angler (bait catcher…!) only adds to the tips and tricks you can learn on a day aboard Shogun.

What Al has not achieved in angling in his 47 years would probably fit on a post it note. Starting out on the rivers aged 8 and first taking up beach fishing in 1980.

Al soon moved on Tournament Casting, finishing 7th in the UKSF finals in 1982 with a cast of 232 yards. 15 years spent in search of specimen freshwater fish culminated in 6 weekly Drennan awards from 1996 – 1999.

Boat fishing came back with a vengeance in 2000 and has lead Al down the Big Bass route. In between trips to Florida and Thailand, Al has landed 14 double figure Bass in just three seasons. He is currently working towards his Yacht Master Offshore.
